ORILLIA, Ont. — Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Orillia Detachment arrested and charged two individuals in separate early morning theft-from-vehicle investigations on February 22, 2026.
Just after 2:30 a.m., officers responded to reports of someone going through vehicles near Shannon Street in Orillia. Police quickly located and arrested the suspect. A search allegedly uncovered various items not belonging to the accused, including medications, wallets, and other personal property.
As a result, Bernard Soucie, 53, of no fixed address, faces multiple charges, including theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, obstructing a peace officer, identity theft, possession of break-in instruments, trespassing at night, theft of a credit card, failing to comply with a probation order, and possession of a Schedule III substance. He was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia.
In a separate incident just after 2:40 a.m., officers responded to another report of a person going through a vehicle near Lewis Drive. Police located the suspect inside an unlocked vehicle and made an arrest. Items not belonging to the accused were allegedly found during a search.
Sarah Blemings, 29, of Orillia, has been charged with theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, mischief, and resisting a peace officer. She is also being held for a bail hearing.
The Orillia OPP reminded residents to take precautions to reduce the risk of vehicle theft, including locking doors, removing valuables from sight, not leaving vehicles running unattended, and considering security cameras for added protection.
