BENUE STATE, NIGERIA — Clement Ungwacii Kav, the Chairman of Logo Local Council in Benue State, has condemned the brutal killing of three fish traders from his local government by suspected militias in Wukari Local Council of neighboring Taraba State.
Logo and Wukari share a common border, and both regions have experienced intermittent tensions in recent times. The tragic incident reportedly took place when the victims — two men and one woman — were lured to Shaor settlement in Wukari with the false promise of purchasing fish at a discounted price. However, this invitation turned out to be a trap, leading to a deadly ambush by armed assailants.
A lone survivor of the attack recounted the harrowing details to the district head of Ukemberagya/Tswarev, explaining that the traders were murdered while en route to Zebo, another community within Wukari.
Reacting to the incident, Chairman Kav issued a statement calling the attack senseless and unacceptable. He expressed outrage over the continuous targeting of his constituents and demanded urgent action from both the Taraba State Government and the Federal Government to prevent further bloodshed.
As the executive chairman, my foremost responsibility is to protect lives and property. I cannot sit idly while militias from neighboring states are killing my people, Kav said, calling for the swift deployment of security measures by the Wukari Council to prevent future attacks and promote peaceful coexistence between the border communities.
Kav also urged for calm and unity among the affected communities, stressing that Nigerians must strive to resolve their differences through dialogue, not violence. He reassured residents of Ukemberagya/Tswarev and the larger Logo community that efforts are underway to identify and prosecute those responsible for the killings.
