Bengaluru: A 42-year-old man, Jagadish C, was reportedly duped of over Rs1.29 crore after being lured into investing through a dating app connection. The fraud unfolded on Quack Quack, a dating platform, where alleged scammers gradually gained Jagadish’s trust.
One of the accused, Meghana Reddy, allegedly convinced him to invest in a fake trading website promising high returns from international stock markets. Using an emotional appeal, Reddy claimed she wanted to build an old-age home in Jagadish’s father’s name, which prompted him to transfer large sums via multiple RTGS and NEFT transactions on November 5 and 6.
After the transfers, the promised profits never materialized, and communication with the accused ceased, revealing the scam.
Bengaluru’s North CEN Cybercrime unit has registered the case under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Authorities are currently tracing digital evidence to identify the fraudsters and recover the stolen money.
