The HAL police in Bengaluru have arrested a 25-year-old habitual offender, Shafiq T.S., and four of his associates for allegedly hacking his former friend, Mohammed Nayeen, to death in a brutal revenge attack in Annasandrapalya on June 18.
Nayeen, who had multiple criminal cases pending against him, was residing in Kengeri and working at a local chicken stall. He had visited Annasandrapalya to meet a relative when the attack occurred.
According to police, the motive stemmed from a long-standing grudge. In 2012, Nayeen had allegedly assaulted Shafiq. Since then, Shafiq had been waiting for the right moment to retaliate. On June 18, Shafiq and his associates confronted Nayeen while he was returning home on a motorcycle and allegedly attacked him with lethal weapons.
Nayeen sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 5—nearly three weeks after the assault.
Following a complaint filed by Nayeen’s father, police launched an investigation and arrested Shafiq along with Saddam Hussain (27), Yatish Pushparaj (29), Irfan Pasha (27), and Imran Khan (26). All five were charged with murder and remanded to judicial custody.
Police have confirmed that both the victim and the accused had criminal backgrounds, and described the murder as an act of premeditated revenge.
