Bengaluru police have arrested 29-year-old Shubham Shukla on charges of cheating, theft, and sexual exploitation, following a complaint by a woman he allegedly defrauded of nearly Rs 20 lakh and 200 grams of gold.
Police revealed that Shukla initially befriended the victim’s minor sister and allegedly sexually assaulted her. Using this connection, he gained access to the family and targeted the elder sister.
Investigators said Shukla lured the elder sister into a live-in relationship, persuading her to tell her parents she was moving to Mumbai for work. Instead, they lived together in Bengaluru for nearly three years, during which he allegedly misappropriated Rs 20 lakh in cash and 200 grams of gold from her.
The woman later discovered that Shukla was already married. Despite promising divorce, he allegedly subjected her to daily physical and mental abuse. She eventually managed to escape and reported the matter to police.
Following the complaint, Bagalgunte police arrested Shukla and produced him in court, where he was remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is ongoing under relevant sections of the IPC and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
