A 64-year-old man, Anant, has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly murdering his wife, Gayatri, and attempting to mislead authorities by staging it as a traffic accident. Gayatri, 54, was a government primary school teacher in Chikkabommasandra. The couple’s daughter is currently in college.
The incident occurred on December 20 near a partially constructed building in Begur, south Bengaluru, according to The Times of India. Police said Anant convinced Gayatri to join him on his motorcycle, claiming they were visiting a recently purchased plot of land.
Investigators reported that once at the location, Anant allegedly shoved Gayatri to the ground and assaulted her with a wooden stick and other objects until she lost consciousness. He then called an ambulance, claiming she had fallen from the bike.
Gayatri was taken to the hospital but later died from her injuries. Medical staff noticed multiple wounds inconsistent with an accident and alerted the police.
Police questioned Anant at the hospital and detained him. A post-mortem confirmed that Gayatri’s death resulted from physical assault. During interrogation, Anant reportedly admitted to the crime, citing anger over what he perceived as neglect and repeated insults from his wife, especially regarding money demands.
