The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two 15-year-old students in connection with a robbery at a mobile phone shop in Wunti Market, located in Bauchi metropolis.
The suspects, identified as Hamza Sadiq and Adamu Ahmadu, both JSS3 students at Bakari Dukku Comprehensive Secondary School, are accused of stealing 100 mobile phones, 75 MP4 players, 30 phone batteries, 50 external memory cards, and a Bluetooth headset.
The pair was apprehended after an investigation led by the Operation Restore Peace (ORP) unit, following an alert from the shop owner about the missing items.
According to Police Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil, the robbery took place on October 1, 2024. The ORP team, led by CSP Kim Albert under the direction of Commissioner of Police Auwal Musa, carried out the investigation.
The suspects confessed to stealing the items by obtaining the shop’s key and taking advantage of the owner’s absence. They sold the stolen goods at discounted prices and used the proceeds to buy personal items, such as clothes, food, and a smartphone.
So far, police have recovered 21 mobile phones, 5 MP4 players, a mobile phone charger, and a metal key from the suspects. Investigations continue to recover the remaining stolen items.
Wakil further revealed that the teenagers will be placed in a rehabilitation facility once the investigation is complete.
