PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — Two women from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, were arrested March 7 for their alleged involvement in an organized retail theft ring at the Lululemon store at The Avenue.
The arrests followed an earlier incident at the same store, less than 24 hours prior, in which two suspects fled police and led officers on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash.
According to Lt. Chris Hyatt of the Peachtree City Police Department, officers were alerted that a vehicle connected to thefts at Atlanta-area stores earlier that day was likely heading to the Peachtree City location. Officers allowed the suspects to remain in the store while positioning units around the shopping center, prioritizing safety due to the presence of juveniles.
When the suspects exited, officers blocked their vehicle. One adult attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended nearby. The suspects were identified as Jaquinta Eurika Brady, 36, and Ebony Shanetelle Hammond, 32. Two juveniles, ages 16 and 7, were also present and later released to another adult relative.
Charges for Brady include:
Theft by shoplifting
Obstruction of an officer
Possession of tools for the commission of a crime
Contributing to the delinquency of a minor
Charges for Hammond include:
Theft by shoplifting
Giving a false name to an officer
Possession of tools for the commission of a crime
Contributing to the delinquency of a minor
Neither woman was granted bond on the shoplifting or possession-of-tools charges, according to Fayette County Jail records.
Lt. Hyatt noted that such groups often use juveniles to evade law enforcement, either to carry merchandise or deter pursuit. Lululemon’s corporate asset protection team helped monitor the store remotely and provided updates that assisted in the arrests.
This marked the second incident involving suspected Lululemon theft rings in Peachtree City in under 24 hours.
