BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) — A man with a long criminal history is behind bars again, this time facing serious charges in connection with an armed robbery and kidnapping incident that occurred in Baton Rouge.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, Anthony Maggitt was arrested and charged following an investigation into a terrifying incident on April 13, near S. Acadian Thruway and I-10.
Investigators say a woman was stopped in her vehicle when Maggitt approached her while armed with a handgun. He allegedly pointed the gun at her, forced her out of her car, and then abducted her in his own vehicle. Police say he stole her keys, cell phone, purse, and cash, before later releasing her and fleeing the scene.
Detectives developed Maggitt as a suspect during their investigation, and the victim positively identified him in a photographic lineup.
On Tuesday, May 20, Maggitt was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He faces the following charges:
Armed Robbery with a Firearm
Aggravated Kidnapping
Access Device Fraud
Police say Maggitt has an extensive criminal history, including arrests for:
Simple Burglary
Simple Battery
Possession of Marijuana
Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle
Aggravated Battery
Purse Snatching
Simple Robbery
Illegal Possession of Stolen Things
Resisting an Officer
Simple Battery of the Infirm
Authorities have not ruled out additional charges as the investigation continues.
