BATON ROUGE, La. — Alvin Betts, 53, has been arrested after a comprehensive investigation into his alleged cocaine trafficking activities in the Baton Rouge area. The investigation, conducted by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO) in cooperation with the DEA, culminated in Betts’ arrest and the seizure of substantial quantities of illegal substances and firearms.
According to officials, Betts was the target of multiple controlled cocaine purchases over several weeks, as well as extensive surveillance. Agents identified five locations that Betts used to facilitate his drug trafficking operations.
During the execution of search warrants at these locations, authorities seized the following:
2.25 pounds of cocaine
3.7 grams of crack cocaine
3.4 grams of cocaine
1.1 pounds of marijuana
2 dosage units of amphetamine
48 dosage units of Hydrocodone
$200,165 in cash (pending seizure)
A Ruger 9mm handgun (stolen through Plaquemine PD)
Two Glock 9mm handguns
Betts now faces numerous charges related to his drug trafficking operation, including distribution and possession of Schedule II narcotics (cocaine, crack cocaine), possession of methamphetamine, illegal carrying of a firearm with drugs, money laundering, and transactions involving drug proceeds, among others.
The investigation spanned three weeks and was a joint effort between EBRSO GIE agents and the DEA. Authorities are continuing to pursue additional leads related to the trafficking operation.
