In a series of proactive operations, city police teams from Basistha and Sonapur have intensified their efforts against theft and illegal liquor trade.

The Basistha Police Station team arrested Raja Das (25) of Jorhat after recovering stolen cosmetic items at Lal Mati. The goods were traced back to Reliance Market, Lalmati, and legal proceedings have been initiated against Das.

Simultaneously, Sonapur Police conducted a raid at the residence-cum-shop of Anjan Taro (40) from Chamata Pathar. Authorities seized a substantial stockpile of illicit Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) including 19 cartons and 175 bottles of various popular brands such as Kingfisher, Tuborg, Simba, Royal Stag, Imperial Blue, McDowell’s No.1, Iconic White, Magic Moments, RC, and Breezer.

Taro was unable to provide any valid documents for the consignment. Preliminary investigations indicate the liquor was stolen and distributed illegally for profit. Legal action has been initiated.

These operations underscore the police’s commitment to curbing criminal activities affecting public safety in the city.
