KATSINA STATE, Nigeria — The Katsina State Police Command has arrested the principal of Government Secondary School, Shargalle, in Dutsi Local Government Area, over the alleged theft of school property.

The suspect, identified as Bashir Musa, 58, was arrested following an investigation into a reported break-in at the school on January 19, 2026. Police said unknown individuals allegedly forced their way into the school’s laboratory in the early hours of the day and stole inverter batteries and other equipment.

The case was later transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation. During the probe, officers traced some of the stolen items to Musa’s residence at Shadambu Low Cost, Daura, where several items belonging to the school were recovered.

Confirming the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, January 26, 2026, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said a search of the principal’s residence led to the recovery of four solar panels, five computer monitors, three CPU units, one solar battery, one printer, and two hair clippers.

Aliyu said detectives were deployed immediately after the initial report of the break-in was received at the Dutsi Divisional Police Headquarters. A handsaw, believed to have been used during the operation, was also recovered at the scene of the crime.

According to police, further investigation linked the recovered items directly to the school, leading to Musa’s arrest. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to his involvement in the theft.

Police said investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to recover the remaining stolen items. Further updates will be provided as the case develops.
