An all-women police team arrested a 43-year-old rice noodles vendor, Basheer Ahammed, on Sunday evening for allegedly sexually assaulting three minor girls in the Thozilpettai area of Karur district.
The victims, aged 12, 10, and 7, were reportedly confined in a house in the industrial area and assaulted, according to sources. The incident came to light when the eldest girl informed her parents upon returning home.
Based on a complaint lodged by the child’s father, a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Following a police investigation, Basheer Ahammed was arrested and produced before a judicial magistrate, who remanded him in judicial custody. He has since been lodged at Trichy Central Prison. Police stated that further investigation is ongoing.
