In a major crackdown on narcotics in Kerala, Ernakulam rural police arrested three individuals in two separate drug trafficking cases on Thursday, seizing large quantities of ganja and heroin under the ongoing Operation D Hunt.
Ganja Seized from West Bengal Natives in Muvattupuzha
In the first operation, Bapparaj Islam and Maimon Mandal, both aged 28 and natives of West Bengal, were arrested with 5.5 kilograms of ganja. The arrests were made by a team led by Muvattupuzha inspector Basil Thomas, under the direction of district police chief M Hemalatha.
Police recovered:
3 kg of ganja from Thrikkalathoor Pallithazham
2.5 kg of ganja from Muvattupuzha Hostel Junction
The operation was part of ongoing surveillance on drug peddlers in the Muvattupuzha region. Investigations are currently underway to identify local buyers, under the supervision of DSP PM Baiju.
The raid team included officers Sumitha SN, Rajesh KK, Sathyan PB, Jayakumar PC, ASI Meeran CK, Jamal, and senior CPOs and CPOs from the local police force.
Heroin, Cannabis Seized from Chicken Shop in Perumbavoor
In a separate bust, police arrested Khairul Islam, 39, a native of Mariya Gav, Assam, for selling drugs from a chicken stall in Pathippalam, Perumbavoor.
The Perumbavoor ASP-led special investigation team recovered:
24 vials of heroin
20 packets of cannabis
Khairul had been under surveillance following a tip-off. He sold heroin vials at Rs1,000 each, according to investigators.
The team included ASP Shakti Singh Arya, Inspector TM Sufi, SI PM Rasikh, ASI PA Abdul Manaf, and senior CPOs TA Afsal, Varghese T Venatt, and Benny Isaac.
These operations mark significant progress in Kerala’s fight against drug trafficking, with authorities promising continued action under Operation D Hunt.
