Mohanlalganj police on Wednesday conducted a raid on a small bakery and arrested its owner, Ashish Yadav (35), for allegedly operating as a ganja dealer alongside his business. Ashish, a resident of Marui village within Mohanlalganj police jurisdiction, was apprehended after police received a tip-off regarding suspicious activities at the bakery.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajneesh Verma revealed that upon arrival, Ashish attempted to flee but was immediately caught by the police team. During the raid, authorities seized 1.35 kilograms of ganja packed in small pouches hidden inside a tin box at the bakery. Additionally, Rs3,000 in cash, suspected proceeds from drug sales, was confiscated.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South, Nipun Aggarwal, stated that Ashish had been selling ganja in small packets priced at ₹1,000 each. The accused confessed to blending his drug trade with his bakery operations to avoid suspicion. The operation is part of an ongoing campaign targeting drug peddlers in the region.

Additional DCP Vasanth Kumar said investigations are underway to trace the supply chain and identify accomplices involved in the drug racket. Mohanlalganj Inspector DK Singh confirmed that the accused is currently under interrogation, and further arrests are anticipated. Ashish Yadav has been booked under sections 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and sent to judicial custody.
