Bajpe police on Saturday arrested two interstate accused for allegedly selling ganja after transporting the contraband by train from Bihar to Mangaluru.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sunil Kumar (40) from Khagaria district, Bihar, and Brijesh Shrivastav (42) from Chunar in Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh. Both were residing in Krishnapura, Katipalla, at the time of the arrest.
Police said the duo was apprehended while attempting to sell ganja on the roadside near Shantigudde Cross, within Bajpe police station limits. Acting on specific intelligence, officers conducted a raid, seizing about one kilogram of ganja from their possession.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to procuring the ganja in Bihar and transporting it to Mangaluru by train, intending to sell it primarily to migrant labourers from northern India.
A case has been registered at Bajpe Police Station, and further investigation is underway to trace other associates and sources of the contraband.
