GLENMONT, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Two Albany men have been arrested after allegedly attempting to scam a Glenmont resident by pretending to be Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) investigators, according to Bethlehem Police.
Authorities identified the suspects as 24-year-old Bailey Martinez and 25-year-old Deamonte Brown, both of Albany. Police say the pair contacted a victim by phone, claiming the individual’s bank account had been compromised. They reportedly told the victim that an FDIC representative would arrive at their home in a white vehicle to collect their debit card.
On October 28, at about 5:30 p.m., officers observed Martinez and Brown arriving at the victim’s residence in a white Nissan SUV—exactly as described in the scam call. Police immediately took both men into custody.
Martinez and Brown were charged with fourth-degree attempted grand larceny and sixth-degree conspiracy.
After being arraigned in the Town of Bethlehem Court, both suspects were released under Albany County Probation supervision and are scheduled to return to court on November 18.
