The Bagodara Police of Ahmedabad Rural district have arrested two men and seized 107 bottles of codeine-based intoxicating cough syrup during a raid near the Rajkot–Ahmedabad National Highway.
Police received a tip-off that the accused were illegally selling codeine-laced cough syrup from a two-wheeler repair garage near the Meldi Mataji temple along the service road near the Bagodara–Dhandhuka overbridge. Acting on the information, officers conducted a raid and recovered 107 bottles of prohibited syrup valued at Rs17,655, along with two mobile phones worth Rs20,000. The total seized material was estimated at Rs37,655.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mukeshbhai Lakhatra and Vishnubhai Gohil, both residents of Devpura village in Limbdi taluka, Surendranagar district. Police said the duo allegedly sold the cough syrup without a licence for personal financial gain.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Bagodara Police Station. Another accused, Ranchodbhai K. Patel of Matoda village in Sanand taluka, Ahmedabad, is yet to be arrested. Authorities are continuing investigations and tracing the supply chain, and more names may emerge.
