Tripura Police arrested a youth, Badar Jamatia, on Saturday from Hadrai village under Teliamura police station in Khowai district for allegedly killing a street dog three days ago. Badar has been charged under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

The police initiated an investigation following an FIR lodged by TIPRA Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman. The FIR was filed after a video surfaced on social media showing Badar committing acts of cruelty against animals. The widely shared video sparked outrage throughout the state.

Badar had been absconding since the video went viral. Authorities revealed he is suspected of multiple similar incidents involving cruelty toward street dogs. The viral footage shows him slamming a dog to the ground and hanging another from a tree.

The police continue to investigate the matter and are monitoring for further evidence of animal cruelty.
