Thiruvananthapuram: The Attingal police on Wednesday arrested Babu, 60, also known as Kalyana Raman, a man accused of marrying multiple women across Kerala and committing theft after gaining their trust.

Authorities said that over 50 cases have been registered against him across various police stations in the state, ranging from Neyyattinkara in Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod.

According to police, Babu targeted widows and women facing marital problems. He would gain their confidence, rent houses under the pretext of securing a local job, and then marry them. After staying for some time, he would scout the homes for easy targets, commit burglaries, and disappear.

Investigators noted that he was a longtime absconder, wanted in multiple theft cases, including the theft of a seven-sovereign gold necklace from an elderly woman in Thiruvananthapuram.

Babu was traced to a lodge near the Attingal KSRTC bus stand after police received intelligence about his presence with a woman in Nileshwar, Kasaragod. Following his arrest, he was handed over to the Fort police station, where he faces several pending theft cases.

Police believe the actual number of victims could exceed the registered complaints. “Investigators suspect several cases may have gone unreported. We are reviewing complaints from different districts to check for links to the accused,” a police source said.
