A 35-year-old man named Babajan, married to three women and father of nine children, was arrested by Bengaluru’s Electronics City police for a series of burglaries committed alongside his 16-year-old son.

Police reports reveal that Babajan, who lacked a steady job, resorted to theft to support his large family, with wives living separately in Srirangapatna, Anekal, and Chikkaballapura. He often traveled between these towns and involved his son in the crimes, banking on leniency towards minors.

Their latest robbery occurred on May 7 at the home of 56-year-old Rojamma in Bettadasanapura. She had left the ground-floor door open while drying clothes on the terrace, allowing Babajan’s son to sneak in and steal gold, silver, and cash worth Rs 4.6 lakh.

Babajan’s method involved targeting homes where occupants were distracted or left doors unlocked. He would drop his son nearby and signal when it was safe to enter.

The police tracked Babajan using CCTV footage and arrested him on May 13 in Mylasandra. Babajan confessed to training his son in these daytime thefts.

Authorities have recovered 188 grams of gold, 550 grams of silver, and a two-wheeler connected to nine theft cases involving the father-son duo.
