In a major crackdown ahead of Holi, Excise police in Hyderabad arrested B. Vikas, a native of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, for selling ganja-laced chocolates and thandai milk in the Charminar area. Authorities recovered 1,920 chocolates, each containing 5 grams of ganja, and noted that the laced thandai milk was being sold at Rs 150 per glass, despite the original price being Rs 50.
Acting on a tip-off, enforcement teams raided Vikas’s residence. During questioning, he admitted bringing the chocolates from Agra, anticipating high demand during the festival. The accused has been handed over to the Charminar Excise police for further legal action.
In a separate operation earlier this week, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Hyderabad Zonal Unit intercepted two individuals involved in the illegal trade of wildlife products, seizing seven tiger nails and three tiger canine teeth. The suspects were caught attempting to sell these items in the grey market. A swift, coordinated operation led to their interception, and one suspect was found carrying the animal parts in a transparent zip-lock pouch.
These actions underscore Hyderabad authorities’ commitment to curbing both drug trafficking and illegal wildlife trade ahead of major festivals.
