In a continued effort to combat drug trafficking, Awantipora Police arrested a drug peddler and seized contraband during a checkpoint operation.
According to an official statement, police at Udipora Y Band on National Highway 44 stopped and searched a suspicious individual, identified as Mehraj-ud-din Ganie, son of Gh. Mohd Ganie, a resident of Kranchoo Pampore, New Colony Lethpora. Officers recovered 0.86 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession.
Mehraj was promptly taken into custody, and an FIR (Number 189/2025) was registered at Awantipora Police Station under relevant legal sections. Investigations are underway.
The police urge citizens to report any narcotics-related activities or crimes to the nearest station or dial 112. The department reiterated its commitment to act firmly against drug offenders to rid society of this menace.
