CLEARFIELD, UT — Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the theft of a statue representing an A-10 Thunderbolt II — better known as the A-10 Warthog — near Clearfield city center earlier this week.
Autumn Breann Baker, 21, and Kellen Murphy, 24, were taken into custody by Clearfield Police and booked into the Davis County Jail. They face charges including second-degree felony theft and misdemeanor property damage.
Police were alerted to the incident on July 8 after a report of theft near the intersection of State Street and Center Street. Surveillance footage from a nearby business reportedly showed an SUV arriving at the scene. A man and a woman exited the vehicle, forcibly broke the statue from its concrete base, and placed it inside the SUV before leaving.
Using license plate reader technology, officers identified the vehicle as registered to Baker. Her driver’s license photo and physical features matched those of the woman in the footage. A search warrant executed at her residence led to the recovery of the stolen statue.
Baker, according to arrest documents, is an active-duty military member. Members of her unit assisted police in identifying Murphy and others in the surveillance footage.
During questioning, another individual—who said he was driving the SUV—told police that Baker and Murphy were responsible for removing the statue. He also provided officers with photos of the two suspects wearing the same clothes as seen in the footage.
Murphy, in his police interview, admitted to being the man in the photos and stated that the group had left a bar in Ogden that evening before heading to Davis County. He claimed to have been “too tired and intoxicated to remember” much of the night’s events.
Baker declined to give a statement, invoking her right to legal counsel.
The stolen statue, valued at $8,000, was part of Clearfield’s public art installation celebrating its identity as “Utah’s Military City.” As of Friday, the statue had not yet been restored to its original location near the Davis County Library’s Clearfield branch.
City officials have not issued a public comment regarding the theft.
