CHARLESTON, W.Va. — James Barber, a 65-year-old attorney from Charleston, was arrested Tuesday at his downtown office on a fugitive from justice warrant issued by Chesterfield County Police in Virginia. Barber faces charges of exposing his sexual genital parts to a child under 15 years old.
The investigation, which began in July 2024, alleges that Barber solicited sex and exchanged inappropriate sexual images and videos with a juvenile girl over several months.
Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney Debra Rusnak confirmed that a local investigation into the matter is now underway.
Barber had been practicing as a personal injury attorney since 1984 and previously worked at Hartley Law Group, PLLC. Following the arrest, his information has been removed from the firm’s website.
