Police arrested three persons for allegedly stealing jewellery and cash worth over Rs13 lakh from a house in Pardeshipura. The mastermind behind the theft was the complainant’s nephew, officials said.

According to police, the complainant Jayshree had travelled with her family to the Saptashrungi Temple for two days. When the family returned home on October 26, they found the rear window of the house open and the locker of the almirah broken.

During inspection, the family discovered that several gold ornaments — including a mangalsutra, earrings, rings, bangles, and a pendant — along with Rs47,000 in cash had been stolen.

Following the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Pardeshipura Police Station.

Kumar Pratik said a special investigation team led by station in-charge R D Kanwa used technical evidence, local intelligence and CCTV footage to identify Atish Khopde, the nephew of the complainant, as the main suspect.

During interrogation, Khopde confessed that he was aware his uncle and aunt were out of town. He then planned the burglary with his friends Rohit Devda and Kartik Prajapat. The trio allegedly entered the house through the back window and broke open the locker to steal the valuables.

Police said the accused admitted they spent the stolen cash on liquor parties. Acting quickly, officers recovered the stolen jewellery worth around Rs13 lakh and arrested the other two accused.

Further investigation is underway.
