A shocking murder case has emerged from the quiet Lahon Gaon locality where businessman Uttam Gogoi, 52, was found dead in his home on July 25. What initially appeared to be a robbery has now been uncovered as a premeditated murder orchestrated by his wife and teenage daughter.
Police have arrested Uttam’s wife, Boby Sonowal Gogoi, their 16-year-old daughter, and two other accused, including a minor. The daughter, a Class 9 student, was reportedly in a relationship with 21-year-old Dipjyoti Buragohain, one of the two external accomplices arrested.
Investigations reveal that the wife and daughter paid Dipjyoti and the minor a substantial sum of money along with gold jewelry to carry out the murder. Police have since recovered the jewelry.
“They attempted to stage the crime scene as a robbery to mislead the investigation, but inconsistencies in their statements and forensic evidence pointed to their involvement,” said Dibrugarh Senior Superintendent of Police, Rakesh Reddy.
The case has shaken the peaceful neighborhood of Lahon Gaon, where Uttam Gogoi was a respected businessman. The arrests triggered protests in Barbaruah with locals demanding strict action against the accused.
SSP Rakesh Reddy confirmed that police are continuing their investigation and interrogations to determine the motive behind the brutal killing. “Once the investigation is complete, we will have a clearer understanding of why this crime was committed,” he said.
