The Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell of Assam has arrested two officers of the Tourism Department in connection with a recruitment scam dating back to 2012–13.
Assistant Tourism Officers Pranjal Bora (formerly posted in Nagaon) and Ananya Borthakur (then posted in Delhi) were apprehended on Tuesday. Both officers had already been suspended by the government pending investigation.
The scam initially surfaced over irregularities in recruitment procedures within the department and was previously scrutinized by former Director Monalisa Goswami. The CM Vigilance Cell had questioned both Bora and Borthakur on two earlier occasions before making the arrests.
Investigation Officer Rosie Kalita confirmed that Nayanmoni Pamegam, who had been on the run, was also arrested along with Bora and Borthakur. The investigation has so far identified eight officials, including six others who are suspended:
Hiran Kumar Saikia
Mehzubin Begum
Saimin Mannan
Gautam Gogoi
Madhav Das
Nayanmoni Pamegam
With the arrests now completed, the probe has entered its final stage, and the chargesheet is expected to be filed soon, bringing closure to the long-running recruitment fraud investigation.
