In a significant operation, Assam Rifles successfully recovered a large quantity of heroin valued at Rs 97.90 lakh on Saturday from the general area of Zote, Champhai district. The operation resulted in the apprehension of Laltanpuia, a 35-year-old resident of Tlangsam village in Champhai.
The entire consignment, along with the accused, was handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department of Champhai for further investigation and legal action. This seizure is part of ongoing efforts by Assam Rifles to curb the growing issue of contraband smuggling in Mizoram, a serious concern for both the state and India.
In a related operation on January 10, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Mizoram Special Narcotics CID, apprehended Ngurthanzami, Bikash Gharti, and Lalramthara in Aizawl, recovering heroin worth Rs 9.51 lakh. These coordinated efforts underscore Assam Rifles’ commitment to combating illegal drug trafficking in the region.
