In a series of successful operations on March 4, 2025, the Assam Police carried out two separate raids in Cachar district, leading to the seizure of 102.84 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and heroin. The police also arrested two individuals in connection with these busts.
According to Numal Mahatta, the Superintendent of Police for Cachar district, a raid was conducted in the Irongmara Bazar area of Dwarbond Police Station on the evening of March 4, based on intelligence inputs. During the raid, police recovered over 102 litres of IMFL from a pan shop and seized the illicit liquor in the presence of witnesses.
Later that night, a police team, acting on a specific tip-off regarding suspicious individuals near Silchar Railway Station, apprehended Rokibul Islam (26 years) and Jahangir Alom (30 years), both residents of Barpeta. Upon searching their belongings, police recovered three plastic soap cases containing heroin from Jahangir Alom, who was reportedly planning to deliver the drugs to Barpeta via train. The contraband was seized, and legal actions were initiated against the two men as per the law.
Earlier, on February 28, 2025, the Cachar Police conducted another significant operation targeting the illegal transportation of narcotics. The police intercepted a Bolero Pickup van on Silcoorie Road, Sildubi, under the jurisdiction of Silchar Police Station. During the operation, the police recovered 35 soap cases containing heroin weighing approximately 415 grams and Rs2 lakh in cash, concealed in secret compartments within the vehicle.
These actions mark significant efforts by the Assam Police to combat illicit liquor trade and narcotics trafficking in the region. Authorities are continuing investigations into the sources and networks involved in the illegal activities.
