In a significant operation, Dispur Police arrested Samarendra Singh, Aku Izam Yonovas, and Ashram Uniya on April 30 in Tinsukia, Assam. The three individuals are accused of running a car theft racket targeting vehicle rental services across the state.

The gang’s modus operandi involved renting vehicles with the promise of high payments but later selling them in Manipur. The trio was in Tinsukia attempting to repeat the scam when police apprehended them.

The case came to light after a vehicle rental incident in Guwahati, where a rented car was not returned, raising suspicions and triggering a thorough investigation. The three suspects are now under interrogation at the Dispur Police Station.

In a related operation, Assam Police also dismantled a major interstate vehicle theft racket with the arrest of 11 individuals. This gang, operating out of Manipur, was infamous for swiftly stealing and smuggling high-end motorcycles and cars. The gang reportedly could steal a motorcycle in just 45 seconds.

During the investigation, the police recovered 13 stolen motorcycles, including 12 Royal Enfield bikes, and three stolen cars, including two Mahindra Thar SUVs and a Mahindra Scorpio. The gang’s operations were meticulously planned, with stolen vehicles transported to Manipur using commercial buses.

The police crackdown highlights the growing issue of vehicle theft and the well-organized nature of these interstate syndicates.
