A 35-year-old migrant worker from Assam, identified as Abdul Rauf, was arrested in Perumbavoor, Kerala, on charges of carrying 30 grams of heroin. The arrest followed a well-coordinated operation led by Perumbavoor Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sakthi Singh Arya, with assistance from the Kunnathunadu Police.

Rauf, a resident of Nagaon in Assam, was allegedly running a narcotics racket from a rented apartment in the Chelakkulam area in Kochi. He was found to be bringing heroin from Nagaland by train and selling it through agents under investigation. During interrogation, Rauf confessed to selling the drugs in tiny bottles for Rs. 500 each through middlemen.

Apart from the heroin, authorities seized Rs. 84,000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales, and discovered hundreds of empty bottles at his residence, which were intended for drug distribution. Police also noted that Rauf’s lavish lifestyle raised suspicions about the legitimacy of his income sources.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to track down Rauf’s supply chain and any possible accomplices involved in the drug trade. This arrest highlights the ongoing problem of drug trafficking in the region and the determined efforts of local authorities to combat such illegal activities.
