In a significant crackdown on corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Udaipur has arrested ASI Babulal Meena from Akola Police Station in Chittorgarh district for accepting a Rs15,000 bribe.
The arrest followed a complaint filed by Prakash Gadari, who alleged that ASI Meena had demanded money in exchange for settling the legal proceedings concerning a Nata (customary marriage) dispute involving his wife.
According to ACB Additional SP Anoop Kumar, the complainant claimed that the ASI was pressuring him to pay the bribe to influence the outcome of the complex marital dispute case. Preliminary verification confirmed the bribe demand, and the ACB team took swift action.
On Tuesday evening, under the leadership of Inspector Narpat Singh, the ACB team caught ASI Meena red-handed while accepting the Rs15,000 bribe from Gadari. It was later revealed that the ASI had already collected Rs50,000 from the complainant for a settlement agreement related to the case.
The dispute, which dates back to Gadari’s allegation of being coerced into a Nata marriage, involves serious claims of fraud. After the marriage, Gadari’s wife reportedly abandoned both their child and the family, fleeing with Rs2 lakh in cash and gold jewelry. Gadari was forced to pay Rs7.11 lakh to his wife’s former husband, allegedly as part of a fraudulent settlement orchestrated by her family.
Upon attempting to file a new FIR at Akola Police Station, ASI Meena allegedly demanded a bribe to settle the legal case. The ACB’s intervention has shed light on this corrupt practice, leading to Meena’s arrest and further investigation into the matter.
