Ashu Puri, a resident of Santoshgarh in Una district, was allegedly shot dead by some youths at a hotel in Lalsingi late Wednesday night.
According to the FIR, Puri’s friends were celebrating his birthday at the hotel, which was also hosting other groups of youths. Around 1 a.m., the two groups exited the hotel, and a verbal altercation escalated into violence in the parking area.
Parminder, a resident of Sanoli village, allegedly fired a shot at Puri’s head, killing him instantly. A case has been registered against Parminder and his two accomplices, Gurjeet Mann and Purjinder, police said.
Superintendent of Police Amit Yadav stated that the youths involved were known to each other. Investigators are also looking into possible links to local criminal gangs and rivalries.
Puri was a Youth Congress activist, while one of the accused, Gurjeet Mann, is a former president of the Una Block Youth Congress, suggesting potential political overtones to the incident.
Police are continuing their investigation and attempting to apprehend all suspects.
