In a shocking incident at CDA Market Complex in Cuttack’s Buxi Bazaar locality, a man was allegedly killed by his own brother, sister-in-law, and nephew following a bitter property dispute. Police have arrested the three accused individuals in connection with the murder case.
The deceased, identified as Ashok Barik, was found dead inside the market complex two days ago. After a thorough investigation, the Commissionerate Police-Cuttack arrested Ashok’s younger brother Umesh Barik, sister-in-law Saraswati Swain (elder brother’s wife), and nephew Swayam Prabhu Sricharan. The trio is set to be presented before the court soon.
The police are still on the lookout for one more person suspected to have been involved in the crime.
According to Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo, the motive behind the murder was an attempt to seize Ashok’s share of the family’s ancestral property. The family had earlier sold property in Salepur, but Ashok and his mother retained their share of the proceeds. Disputes arose regarding another family property in Sankarpur, which led to a conspiracy culminating in Ashok’s murder.
This brutal act committed by close family members has shocked the local community.
“We have arrested three of the four accused, including the deceased’s younger brother, elder brother’s wife, and nephew. The fourth suspect is currently absconding,” said DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo.
The police continue their efforts to apprehend the remaining accused and further investigate the case.
