COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) arrested two individuals following a car theft investigation on Tuesday morning.
Officers responded just before 7:30 a.m. to the 2300 block of Willow Tree Grove near Airport Road and Printers Parkway after a victim reported their vehicle stolen. The victim said they had left the car running, assuming it was secure since the key fob was not inside.
Police located the vehicle near Tulane Street and South Fairmont Street and traced the suspects to the 100 block of University Drive. The victim’s debit card, left in the car, had been used at multiple nearby businesses, providing authorities with photos of the suspects.
Officers arrested 40-year-old Ashley Steele for identity theft and 25-year-old Richard Deanda for motor vehicle theft, identity theft, and resisting arrest. Deanda, a seven-time motor vehicle thief, was on parole for previous theft and had an outstanding warrant.
CSPD reminded the public to understand the limitations of key fobs and remote start systems, especially with winter weather approaching.
