A 43-year-old Warsaw woman is facing a felony auto theft charge after allegedly stealing a moped she had previously sold.
Ashley Marie Hough, of 2960 E. Joshua Drive, Warsaw, was arrested and charged with auto theft, a Level 6 felony.
According to court documents, a man told Warsaw Police that he bought the moped from Hough for $180. On May 28, after the moped stopped working, he parked it in a Warsaw location and kept the key. When he returned an hour later, the moped was missing. He attempted to call Hough, who answered but hung up after recognizing his voice.
On May 31, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputy located the stolen moped abandoned in a field south of Warsaw.
In a June 1 interview with police, Hough admitted she had sold the moped but decided to retrieve it once she learned it was left parked. She had someone load it into a truck and place it in a storage unit. However, after receiving a voicemail from law enforcement, she became nervous and decided to abandon the moped in a field.
Hough was arrested and later released on bond.
