The Delhi Police have arrested a 38-year-old man from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, in connection with an online vehicle challan scam. The accused, Ashish Sharma, allegedly impersonated a Regional Transport Office (RTO) officer and deceived vehicle owners into paying fake challan fines.
Sharma reportedly contacted victims, informing them of pending challans for their commercial vehicles. Using vehicle registration details, he threatened that their permits would be canceled unless the fines were paid immediately. One complainant, believing the threat, transferred Rs 12,500 as a fine payment. It was only later that the complainant realized the transaction was a scam.
Following the complaint, police traced the accused through bank transactions and call records, leading to his arrest. Authorities are investigating the full extent of the scam and whether others were involved.
