Delhi Police have busted a fake robbery case involving 25 smartphones worth Rs 20 lakh, arresting four men, including the complainant, Ashish Kumar. The accused staged the robbery to misappropriate the phones, which included 14 iPhone 17s, 10 OnePlus devices, and a Vivo handset.
According to officials, Kumar, a courier delivery agent at a mobile retail outlet, had lodged a complaint claiming two men on a scooter intercepted him near the Vikas Marg flyover while he was en route to Karol Bagh. He alleged that the men threatened him with a firearm and stole the backpack containing the phones.
Police registered a case at the Shakarpur police station but found inconsistencies in Kumar’s statement. Under questioning, Kumar confessed that he had planned the fake robbery with his aides Tanveer, Shamim, and Aman to sell the phones and share the proceeds. Authorities have recovered the entire consignment of 25 phones and two scooters used in the scheme.
DCP (East) Abhishek Dhania said the accused will face charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act for attempting to mislead authorities.
