Arunachal Pradesh police arrested two suspected drug peddlers and seized over 34 grams of heroin in separate operations on Saturday.
In the first operation, Nirjuli police apprehended Asadul Islam, a resident of Bihpuria, Lakhimpur district, Assam, from the Thursday Market area. Police recovered approximately 16.49 grams of heroin, concealed in 13 vials. Acting on information from the accused during interrogation, a raid at his Nirjuli-I residence near the Dikrong river yielded the same quantity of heroin. A case under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
On the same day, Naharlagun police arrested Karjo Bedi (21), a resident of Lekhi village, following a tip-off about heroin peddling in C Sector, Naharlagun. Police recovered 2.30 grams of heroin from him. During interrogation, Bedi revealed the concealment of additional heroin at his rented room in Barapani. A search conducted there recovered 16.04 grams of heroin in 14 vials. A case under Sections 21(b), 27, and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered, and Bedi remains in custody.
Both operations were conducted under the supervision of senior police officials, including Naharlagun SP Dr. Nyelam Nega. Authorities continue to investigate the peddlers’ network.
