A 58-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday evening in Nashik for allegedly murdering his 86-year-old bedridden mother at their home in the Jail Road area of Nashik Road.
The accused, Arvind Murlidhar Patil, a resident of Shivajinagar, reportedly choked his mother, Yashoda Patil, to death. He later walked into the Nashik Road police station around 11:30 p.m. and confessed, saying, “I murdered my mother by choking her to death due to her old age. Arrest me.”
Following the confession, ACP Sachin Bari, along with senior police inspector Jeetendra Sapkale and a team from the Nashik Road police station, visited Patil’s residence. They found Yashoda’s body inside the house.
According to ACP Bari, the accused stated that his mother, who was bedridden and ailing, would constantly ask him to help with household tasks, which led to frequent arguments. Patil, who is unemployed, allegedly found her requests bothersome.
Investigations also revealed that Patil had been married twice, but both wives had left him. He had no children and depended on his mother’s pension.
A murder case has been registered against Patil under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
In a separate case reported the same day, Satpur police arrested Swapnil Gholap (37) for allegedly killing his 63-year-old mother, Mangala Gholap, after she repeatedly urged him to quit drinking.
