Arunachal Pradesh Police made significant strides in their efforts to apprehend wanted criminals by arresting two individuals on Friday, both of whom had been evading capture in separate cases across different states.
Debashish Kar, a 55-year-old jeweller, was wanted for a theft case in which he collected gold ornaments from customers under the pretext of repairing them but instead fled with the jewellery. Multiple written complaints had been filed against Kar at Naharlagun Police Station in August, leading to the registration of a case under Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code. Kar managed to evade capture, frequently changing his location and mobile numbers while hiding in different states. After sustained technical surveillance and efforts by the police, Kar was traced to Kolkata. He was arrested on Friday from Habra, West Bengal, and has been brought back to Naharlagun for further investigation, said Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo.
In another case, Srinu Chekka, a 33-year-old individual, was involved in a fraud case where he allegedly fraudulently withdrew Rs 4 lakh from a woman’s bank account. Following a complaint lodged with the Naharlagun Police Station, a police team led by Officer-in-charge K Dev traced Chekka to Guwahati. He was arrested from Ambari, Guwahati, also on Friday, and was brought back to Naharlagun for further investigation.
Both individuals, now in police custody, are facing charges in relation to their respective cases. The police have assured that investigations will continue to bring further clarity to the extent of their criminal activities.
