A man and his wife have been arrested for allegedly committing a house theft worth Rs 23.5 lakh in broad daylight under the Lasudia police station jurisdiction, officials said on Wednesday. The couple, Arun Nannu and his wife Nandini, were also reportedly involved in an attempted theft at a private bank in the area.
The stolen items recovered from the accused included Rs 19 lakh in cash, a gold chain worth Rs 1.5 lakh, a car valued at Rs 3 lakh, a knife, and an iron cutter.
According to DCP (Zone-2) Kumar Prateek, the incident came to light after Babulal Sharma, director of DK Construction, filed a complaint on November 28. On November 26, Sharma’s daughter-in-law discovered that the cupboard in her home had been broken into, and valuables were missing. CCTV footage revealed an unidentified man entering through the back window and leaving with cash and a gold chain.
In a separate incident, Yash Verma, manager of a private bank, reported that on November 22, the bank shutter lock had been broken. While nothing was stolen, cupboards were found open, indicating an attempted theft.
A special team, led by Lasudia Police In-charge Taresh Kumar Soni, collected CCTV footage from both locations and identified the suspect. Arun Nannu, a resident of Khandwa currently living in the Ramnagar area, was arrested. During interrogation, he allegedly admitted to stealing Rs 21 lakh in cash and a gold chain from the house, as well as a car from the same location two months earlier. He also confessed that he and his wife cut the ICICI Bank shutter lock with an iron cutter on November 22 in an attempted break-in.
Nandini was subsequently arrested for allegedly encouraging her husband and participating in the bank break-in attempt.
Police have successfully recovered stolen items totaling Rs 23.5 lakh, including cash, a gold chain, the car, a knife, and an iron cutter.
