In two separate incidents, police on Tuesday arrested two individuals accused of murder in Ganjam and Gajapati districts.
In the first case, Arun Dalai (32), a resident of Ralaba village under Hinjili police station in Ganjam district, was arrested for fatally stabbing a 55-year-old man, Hari Krushna Sethi, on Monday evening. According to police, the victim tried to intervene in a quarrel between Arun and his son over sleeping arrangements in the village community hall.
“In the heat of the moment, Arun stabbed Hari Krushna with a knife,” said Inspector Srinibash Sethi of Hinjili police. The victim was rushed to the Hinjili Sub-Divisional Hospital, where he was declared dead. Police have recovered the weapon used in the crime.
In the second case, Ananta Bagsingh, a resident of Kunkumi village under Mohana police station in Gajapati district, was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife, Resma Bagsingh (27), late Sunday night. The couple, who had been married for nine years and had two children, reportedly had ongoing domestic disputes.
Police said a heated argument escalated into violence when Ananta stabbed Resma and slit her throat in a fit of rage. The exact motive is still under investigation, but family conflict is suspected.
Both men have been taken into custody, and separate murder cases have been registered against them. Investigations are ongoing in both districts.
