Arun Arrested in Gaya Fake Medicine Racket

Delhi Police bust interstate drug cartel

by Ananya Mehta

The Delhi Police have busted a large-scale fake medicine manufacturing unit in Gaya, arresting the key accused, Arun, 59. This is the second fake drug factory uncovered in the past week, linked to an interstate drug syndicate.

Authorities said Arun was running the illegal unit without qualified chemists, producing large quantities of spurious medicines for sale. So far, a total of nine members of the cartel have been arrested.

Seized Items

Police recovered extensive materials and equipment used in production, including:

1.19 lakh spurious Zinc tablets

Over 42,000 fake Azithromycin tablets

27 kg of paracetamol powder

444 fake ampoules of Dilona Aqua

Tablet manufacturing machinery

Additionally, Arun processed over 5 kg of smuggled tramadol powder, valued at more than Rs5 crore internationally, which was sold through bogus medical fronts at inflated prices. The tablets were marketed as painkillers and were also used as heroin substitutes.

Investigation

Arun was traced following the interrogation of another accused, Tanishq, arrested last week. The operation is part of a larger crackdown that included the discovery of a similar fake medicine factory in Patna last week.

Authorities continue to investigate the interstate network to apprehend remaining members and curb the circulation of counterfeit drugs.
