PHUKET – Police in Phuket arrested a 41-year-old Uzbek national, Artur Amirbekov, on Monday, July 14, on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend and stealing her belongings.
The arrest followed a complaint filed by the victim at Wichit Police Station on Sunday, July 13. According to her report, Amirbekov attacked her at her condominium in the Wichit sub-district before fleeing the scene with her cash, mobile phone, and a Yamaha Filano motorcycle.
Police traced Amirbekov to a residence in Soi Na Sue, where he was taken into custody. The stolen motorcycle was also recovered at the scene. Details about the victim’s injuries and the total value of the stolen items were not disclosed.
Amirbekov is now facing three criminal charges under Thai law:
Section 335: Theft at night – punishable by 1–5 years in prison and a fine of 20,000–200,000 baht.
Section 358: Property damage – punishable by 6 months to 10 years in prison and a fine of 10,000–200,000 baht.
Section 295: Physical assault – punishable by up to 2 years in prison, a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both.
This case adds to a series of recent disturbing domestic violence incidents in Thailand. In April, a Thai woman in Phuket’s Mueang district died following a brutal assault by her boyfriend. In June, a South Korean man in Pattaya was arrested for violently attacking his Thai girlfriend and holding her captive due to jealousy.
