Man Arrested in Rincon for Running Illegal Chop Shop, Seizing 8 Stolen Cars
RINCON, Ga. — After a two-year investigation, Effingham County deputies arrested 49-year-old Arthur Young for operating an illegal “chop shop” in the Picket Fences subdivision.
Authorities say Young was stealing cars, dismantling them, and reselling parts by altering vehicle identification numbers (VINs) right under his neighbors’ noses. The operation led to the seizure of eight stolen vehicles reported missing from various locations across Georgia.
Neighbors expressed surprise at the police activity, noting the area has typically been safe. Young faces felony charges including theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a vehicle with an altered VIN number.
