ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — The Attalla Police Department has arrested a Foley man in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred earlier this month.

Police say 64-year-old Arthur Reynolds was taken into custody after officers responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Burke Avenue and Osborne Street around 10:15 a.m. on October 7.

Upon arrival, officers found 40-year-old David Loyd Smothers dead from a gunshot wound inside a nearby vehicle.

Investigators confirmed that Reynolds was Smothers’ father-in-law. He has been charged with capital murder and remains in custody as the investigation continues.

Authorities have not released additional details about the motive behind the shooting.
