Armeal Whitfield Arrested for Illegal Weapon Possession in Palmyra

Geneva man charged after DNA linked him to seized handguns

GENEVA, N.Y. — A Geneva man has been arrested following a nearly year-long investigation into illegal firearm possession in the Village of Palmyra.

Armeal Whitfield was taken into custody on July 24 on Main Street in Geneva with the assistance of the Geneva Police Department, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

The charges originate from an incident in August 2023, when deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on Market Street in Palmyra. During the investigation, officers recovered two handguns from the residence—one of which had its serial number filed off.

Using DNA analysis, detectives identified Whitfield as the individual who had possessed the weapons. Due to his prior felony convictions, Whitfield is prohibited from owning or handling firearms.

He has been charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon and was transported to the Wayne County Jail, where he awaits arraignment in CAP Court.

Authorities noted that all charges are accusations, and Whitfield is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
