BUDA, Texas — A 51-year-old Baytown man has been arrested after police say he stole more than $1,700 worth of brisket from grocery stores across Central Texas during a weekend theft spree.

According to the Buda Police Department, Armando Salazar was taken into custody on Dec. 6 and charged with theft under $2,500 with two or more prior convictions. He is being held on a $2,500 bond.

Investigators allege Salazar targeted multiple H-E-B and Walmart locations, including stores in Buda, Manor, and Austin. Police say surveillance and reports from the affected retailers helped link the incidents together.

After identifying a suspect, Buda officers alerted the Kyle Police Department, which later located Salazar at an H-E-B in Kyle. Authorities believe he was attempting to steal additional meat at the time of his arrest.

Police said the investigation remains open as they work to determine whether additional thefts may be connected to the case.
